Pain on the right side right underneath rib cage?

on and off i have had pain in the upper right side of my stomach for about 2 months, i know i need to make a doctor appointment im in the middle of switching doctors. once or twice it was so painful i almost went to the doctor but it went away quickly so i figured it was nothing.( gallbladder runs in my family lot of family members got it removed) other thing i thought of was maybe appendix. when i press right under my rib cage it feels weird like i can actually feel something there...has anyone experienced this? last night i had a sharp pain but it went away quickly. could it be something other than gallbladder and appendix? anyone who has experienced this? thanks!
